A move to Manchester United would be the logical step for Jose Mourinho, according to formerChelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

Mourinho has been hotly tipped to replace Louis van Gaal this summer and the Italian, who won two Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies during his 10 years at Stamford Bridge, insists his former boss would be a good fit for United.

“It is a great team and he is a great manager, so why not? But I don’t know if it will ever happen.” Cudicini said,
.
“I read he would like to stay in England and his family is happy in England so Manchester United is the team that would come to mind straight away.”

Mourinho was sacked just seven months after winning the Premier League title and Cudicini admits the Portuguese was let down by his players who struggled to find their feet in the new season.
“Some players were the best last year and not this,” said the Italian.

“It hasn’t been a great start to the season and you were expecting him to turn the corner but the moment struggled to arrive.

“It was a difficult situation for everybody at the club, and directors had to make a decision one way or another after results were not what they were expecting. It is not up to me to say if it was right or wrong.”
